KA MUSEUMS CONSULTING
Assisting Smaller Museums and Galleries
I understand the issues facing smaller museums and galleries today, and I can provide diversified services to assist your institution in achieving its objectives.
American Art Research
Exhibition Planning
Collections Care and Research
Institutional Assessment
Interim Directorship
America Art Research:
• American Painting and Sculpture, 1800-1945
• Works of Art on Paper
• Art of the American West
• Art of the Civil War
Exhibition Planning: When possible, I prefer working with museum staff in a collaborative manner, but I will plan exhibitions independently when there are insufficient personnel to work with as a team. Specializing in exhibitions of the fine arts, decorative arts and military history.
Collections Care and Research: A constant challenge for institutions is to be appraised of the historical and aesthetic importance of objects in the collections, and to assure their long-range stability through properly maintained storage or exhibitions techniques and environmental conditions.
Institutional Assessment: Third-party analysis of an institution’s overall structure can lead to significant improvement in governance and day-to-day operations. During an on-site visit I interview stakeholders and review all aspects of the institution’s daily operation, after which I prepare a detailed written analysis of my observations and recommendations. My work is especially designed to meet the specific concerns of a given institution.
Interim Directorship: While your director search is underway an interim director can help ease the transition from one administration to the next.
Every institution is unique, and each consulting assignment is different. In every instance, consulting will be designed to suit the specific requirements of the given institution. My consulting is confidential, ethical and in conformity with the highest standards of museum practices.
